The horticulture plot No. 5 (Horticulture Plot) of the Experimental Farm Affiliated to the College of Bio-Resources and Agriculture of National Taiwan University was established to support teaching and student practice, tests and researches of the University, and provide demonstrative operation. This 4.4-hectare multi-functional farm for teaching and experiment has eight greenhouses of various kinds with simple facilities, three small-scale experimental fields, one fruit tree specimen park, two zones for the collection of banana germplasm, one specimen park for ornamental plants, and ample experiences in teaching and field management. The Plot sits at the border between waste land and urban area. The side bordering Fanglan mountain is the edge of a forest and waste land, which contributes to an abundant biome; the other side of the Plot faces urban Taipei , providing easy access for the general public and making the Plot an excellent place for extension education. In recent years, the concept of biodiversity has been advocated by the academic societies, but public consensus is essential in its realization. To this end, the Plot has taken advantage of its own conditions and the academic resources of the University and built an ecology garden for public education.
